JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Monster Jam monster truck stunt show is back in Jacksonville. Eventgoers can expect big trucks doing big tricks all weekend long.
Typically, this event is held at Everbank Stadium, but because of the Stadium of the Future construction, it’s been moved.
Truckloads of dirt were wheeled into VyStar, but the big wheels everyone is interested in are 12,000-pound monster trucks!
“There’s nothing like taking a 12,000-pound truck and doing a backflip into a nose wheel combo or something crazy like that,” said monster truck driver Tony Ochs.
The Saturday and Sunday event features driver competitions in three categories: Racing, 2 Wheel Skills and Freestyle. Some of the stunts include back flips and vertical two-wheel tricks.
The precursor event is the Pit Party, allowing fans to see trucks and drivers up close.
One of the drivers they’ll see is Krysten Anderson.
“My dad took the very first red headlights for Gravedigger out of a school bus,” said Anderson.
Anderson drives the 45-year-old behemoth of a truck—Gravedigger.
“The tires are huge; they’re about five foot six. They’re about as tall as I am. They’re 700 pounds. The truck itself is almost 13,000 pounds. This thing is a machine!” said Anderson.
Anderson inherited Monster Jam’s last hand-painted truck, as the only daughter of famous driver Dennis Anderson.
“I was not the princess of the house. If my brother had it, I wanted it too, and I wanted it twice as fast and even bigger,” said Anderson.
“I get to be a female face representing all of the little girls and the ladies who are in the stands, and I’m driving the most iconic monster truck ever known,” the monster truck driver continued.
