FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — Action News Jax is pressing the Nassau County School District for answers following allegations of racist behavior by students at Fernandina Beach High School during a varsity volleyball game against Andrew Jackson High School.

“One of our players fell, and she was injured. She appeared to be injured. They began to stand up with a black doll, and they were saying, ‘Oh, she’s dead. It’s just another one. She’ll be okay,’” said Beckton.
Since then, the Nassau County School District has launched an investigation into the incident.
They sent Action News Jax a statement Monday saying:
“The Nassau County School District’s investigation remains ongoing. We continue to work with Duval County Public Schools and Andrew Jackson High School as part of that process.
We are committed to a thorough review to ensure this event is fully addressed.
We will provide an additional update when the investigation is complete.”
We have been trying to speak with Fernandina Beach High School parents about this issue, but it’s been difficult given the nature of the controversy.
We did speak with one Fernandina Beach High School parent. She did not attend the game or see the black baby doll held up by a Fernandina Beach fan.
We blurred her face and agreed not to identify her.
“I think there needs to be more information going on rather than just things on Facebook,” she said.
We reached out to the Nassau County school district to see if they sent out any warnings regarding fan behavior ahead of Monday night’s Volleyball game.
We did not get an answer to our question.
