Neighbors: Filthy Arlington pool poses health risk, danger to kids

Neighbors said a dirty pool at a vacant Arlington home could be dangerous.

It’s not the first time they’ve voiced these concerns. Action News Jax first told you about the pool on Wildwood Drive back in July.

The pool was a greenish color then and was drawing mosquitoes.

“A nasty swampy mess,” neighbor Kim Parsons said.

After our story ran, the mortgage company that owns the home sent out a crew to clean the pool.

Neighbors told us the condition of the pool has worsened again.

“I’m not sure when the last time anyone has been here,” said Parsons.

Only now, the lock to a gate that leads to the pool is broken.

Neighbors showed us the way, and tell us they worry about young children wandering back there and falling in.

“If a little kid was out here, got away from their parents and fell in, you’re not going to see them,” said Parsons.

City code enforcement placed a notice on the door of the home.

The notice calls the pool a health hazard and that needs to be drained or covered, but the deadline listed on the notice has passed.

If changes aren’t made, the notice says the city has the right to make the changes and hold the home’s owner financially responsible.

We reached out to the mortgage company, Offerpad, LLC, which is based in Arizona.

A company spokesperson told us the issue should be handled by 5 p.m. on Friday.

“I don’t care how well you raise your kids,” said Parsons. “They’re going to get into stuff, and this is like an accident waiting to happen.”
