Neighbors: Jacksonville grandfather shot in face in drive-by

A Jacksonville man is recovering after police say he was shot in the face in a drive-by shooting Saturday night.

Officers were called to the 7400 block of Proxima Road off Ricker Road just before 10:15 p.m.

A man was inside his garage when he was shot in the face, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

He was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Several neighbors told police they heard the gunshots.

Eddie Couillard said he heard three shots, then looked outside and saw police and fire rescue.

He said the man and his wife have lived at the home for decades and often have their children and grandchildren at the house.

Couillard said the man had a bullet lodged in his jaw area but he was not too badly injured.

He said he did not believe the man was the intended target in the shooting.

JSO did not have any suspect information to share as of Sunday morning.

The drive-by took place just a few hours after a double shooting on Jacksonville's Eastside.

Police said a man was killed and a second man was critically hurt in a shooting outside a laundromat on A Philip Randolph just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police were working to develop information about two suspects.

It happened in front of the same laundromat where six people were shot in October. A 76-year-old man died from his injuries, according to police.
