New St. Augustine craft brewery gives boost to West King Street

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A new craft brewery is set to open it’s doors Friday in the nation’s oldest city, likely bringing another boost to a part of town that has seen growth in recent years.

"Six beers on draft, couple IPAs, chipotle porter, cream ale," said Steven Mendoza, one of the partners at Bog Brewing.

Those are the kind of beers you’ll find when Mendoza and his business partners open the doors to Bog Brewing.

"We brew two batches at a time, it’s a really long brew day," said Mendoza.

To be exact, the process takes about 11-and-a-half-hours, but it’s all part of the craft beer business which Mendoza has wanted to grow in his home state of Florida for a long time.

"I think the demand is there throughout the state and as more breweries grow demand is also growing," said Mendoza.

Bog Brewing is not the first craft brewery to open up in the nation's oldest city, but it is the first craft brewery to open up on West King Street which is an area that's been growing and is away from the sometimes hectic downtown area.

"It doesn’t really get the tourist foot traffic that St. George or Spanish Street would but I think it’s a growing area it’s got a nice little commercial zone to it," said Mendoza.

As St. Augustine continues to leave it’s footprint in the craft beer world Mendoza said it’s a business that will only keep growing from here.

Doors open Friday at noon. Bog Brewing will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays allowing its owners to make the beer during that time.
