JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — People living on the Northside now have a new place to go for medical care.
The UF Health North complex opened Monday and will provide over 20 specialty services including a 24/7 emergency room.
The new center will create roughly 350 new medical jobs in Jacksonville and will serve people from north Jacksonville, Nassau County and southeast Georgia.
It provides a shorter drive to get medical care, which is a relief for those who live in the area.
“I'm 80 years old, so I'm not looking to be the first patient, but I'm looking forward to if it happens then I can be here in a hurry,” said Warren Alvarez, a neighbor.
A UF Health hospital will be built at the same location. Groundbreaking is expected to begin in late 2015 with completion expected in 2017.
