Newly released surveillance video shows what happened after 7-year-old was shot and killed

Action News Jax has obtained never-before-seen surveillance video in the murder of Heidy Rivas Villanueva.

The state attorney’s office released dozens of videos from different businesses nearby showing the scene from different angels.

The videos show a busy Westside shopping center off 103rd Street as it was on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Those nearby had no way of knowing a robbery was about to happen.

One of those innocent bystanders was 7-year-old Heidy, who was sitting in her dad's car when a stray bullet killed her.

We showed the video to Action News Jax Law and Safety expert Dale Carson.

“They may be sufficient to establish that someone was there,” said Carson.

One of the dozens of video clips shows two people running away from the scene.

It appears one of them is holding a gun.

Carson said that while the videos could be helpful, the state will need more to get a conviction

“The fact that we have two individuals, perhaps three running, in these series of films doesn't mean anything. All it establishes is that they were there at the time,” said Carson.

Shortly after the shooting, you can see people going into a nearby internet cafe. A woman was visibly upset as she pointed outside through the window.

Action News Jax spoke to Heidy’s mom, Angelica Beatriz Villanueva, who said she doesn’t hold any resentment toward the suspects but does want justice for her child.
