BRUNSWICK, Ga. — On Thursday Brunswick's interim police chief revealed new information on the arrest of a Brunswick Police Department officer following a hostage situation.
Officer Darry Williams was put on administrative leave before holding three people hostage.
Williams had a meeting with his captain regarding some issues he’d been having at work on Wednesday. At that time he was put on administrative leave and given very specific instructions.
Police say Williams went to City Hall with a gun and made a threat. City Hall was locked down, and Williams left and ended up at the Norwich Commons residential complex, where he held three strangers hostage with a Tek-9 machine pistol inside a vacant office.

Eventually Williams let the hostages go safely and his captain made the decision to go inside to try to talk Williams down.
“I was just going on my gut instinct,” said Capt. Kevin Jones. “I didn’t go in alone. Initially I did, yes. I saw an opportunity and I took it. But other officers immediately followed me in and backed me up.”
Williams is facing three counts of aggravated assault, one count of kidnapping and three counts of false imprisonment.
Police say before this week Williams never had any disciplinary problems. They say he was actually very well liked and had a lot of friends on the police force.
