Officials say $1 billion in unclaimed property in Florida

Right now $1 billion in property is waiting to be claimed in Florida.

The chief financial officer said thousands of people have old paychecks or bank accounts with their name on it -- but with nowhere to go.

According to the CFO’s office in Clay County, there is more than $9 million worth of unclaimed property. In St. Johns, that number is more than $10 million.

In Duval County alone there are more than 300,000 accounts worth more than $68 million.

One woman said she has already gotten money from the state.

“I got it from my husband ... my deceased husband and myself. A lot of people don’t do it,” said Gladys Dillard.

Dillard said she thinks more people should search their name.

“People don’t do it! They say no it’s not true. All you have to do is try it,” said Dillard.

There is no time limit, just go to fltreasurehunt.org. You have the right to claim property at any time at no cost.
