One ejected, 3-month-old seriously injured in collision by St. Johns County rest area

ST JOHNS, Fla. — Two people, including a 3-month-old child, were injured in a collision by the St. Johns County rest area Sunday morning. Another passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

The Florida highway patrol reports that at 11:25 a.m. Sunday a Nissan Pathfinder was stopped on the center median of Interstate 95 South by mile marker 303 near the Florida Welcome Center.

A Toyota Tacoma was traveling south in the inside lanes and then accelerated to merge into the southbound lane.

The Nissan attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid impact, resulting in the front right of the Toyota striking the left rear of the vehicle and overturning off the right side of the roadway.

A passenger of the Nissan was then ejected from the car as the vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Three people, 17 years old woman, 18 years old man and a 3-month-old girl were inside the Nissan.

The 18-year-old was reportedly not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and the baby was not in a child restraint. Both have serious injuries.

It is unclear at this time which of the two were ejected from the SUV.

No injuries were reported for the two Toyota passengers ages 63 and 5. Both were reportedly wearing seatbelts.

The crash is currently under investigation.
