Clay County sheriff's wife: ‘This crazy heifer right here has been stalking my husband'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Clay County sheriff's wife made recordings on her cellphone the night her husband accused a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office corrections officer of following him last week.

Action News Jax got the recordings from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, where they had been saved as evidence.

“This crazy heifer right here has been stalking my husband for the longest,” Denise Daniels can be heard saying in one recording.

TRENDING:

The records department told Action News Jax it redacted the video portion of those recordings because it can’t release images of the sheriff’s wife.

Denise Daniels reportedly made the recording behind the wheel after her husband called for backup.

According to the incident report, the sheriff, Darryl Daniels, told his own deputies that JSO corrections officer Cierra Smith was following him in her Jeep and he believed he was in “imminent danger.”

“My husband is your boss. He’s sitting right there in that car. Sheriff Daniels,” Denise Daniels told a deputy in a cellphone recording.

She said they had a sexual relationship a few years ago, when they both worked for JSO, and had remained friends in the years that followed.

Smith told the deputies she and Sheriff Daniels had agreed to meet there days after he confessed to his wife about their affair.

Smith was not arrested, and the sheriff declined to press charges.

Days before that encounter, Smith had reported Denise Daniels to JSO for threatening phone calls.

She said Denise told her, “I know you just got out of the hospital and if you keep calling Mr. Daniels, I am going to put you back there.”

Action News Jax called and texted the number listed for Denise Daniels on the incident report to try to get her side of the story; we have not heard back.

The Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said Sheriff Daniels is out of town but may give a statement later this week.

JSO officer Cierra Smith spoke with Action News Jax. “I would like my side of the story to be told,” said Cierra Smith.

“I’m not a stalker,” Smith said.  “I’m not this crazy person who’s out here just trying to chase behind the sheriff or do anything like that.”
