Police identify young woman found dead at Windsor Parke Golf Club

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old woman whose body was found on a local golf course over the weekend. Details about how she died are limited.

Windsor Parke Golf Club is back open Monday, but for the majority of Sunday the area was roped off with crime scene tape after a young woman’s body was found on this golf course.

Early Sunday morning a jogger here in Windsor Parke flagged down a maintenance worker at the golf course.

“She just informed us that there was a lady who needed help getting up, so I came over to see what was going on, and I came to find out,” said James Davis, who works at Windsor Parke. “She was unconscious, she wasn’t breathing or anything.”

JSO released the name of that young woman Monday morning.

Police said her name is Darla Thiel and she lived in Arlington.

Action News spoke briefly with one of her family members Monday who says at this time they wish to not make a statement.

Thiel was enrolled in the Associate in Arts degree program at Florida State College at Jacksonville in the summer of 2012.

Police have released limited details about their investigation at this point, they say there was evidence that Thiel had used drugs.

Davis says he has worked at this course for 13 years, he’s also a father, and says he was devastated.

“I actually cried after I found what was going on it was sad, because I have a daughter that age,” Davis said.

JSO says that there was no evidence of foul play or trauma to Thiel when they found her.

Thiel's family has set up a GoFundMe page in order to cover the cost of the funeral.
