Putnam County Library employee arrested for soliciting sexual photos, videos from an underage girl

INTERLACHEN, Fla. — A Putnam County Library Employee was arrested after apparently soliciting sexual photos and videos from an underaged girl, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Kurt Sheldon, 29, of Interlachen has been arrested and charged by federal criminal complaint with production and possession of child exploitation material, according to court documents.

Sheldon faces a minimum of 15 years and up to 50 in federal prison.

Sheldon has been detained pending a hearing scheduled for Sept. 10.

According to the complaint, parents of a minor child made a report to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office about sexual messages being sent by an adult to their daughter on Snapchat and Whisper, social media apps.

The adult referred to himself as “K t”. He had began communicating with the child on Whisper and told her he was between the ages of 25 and 29. The child told him that she was 15-years-old, according to the complaint.

He told her that his name was Kurt and he lived in Putnam County. She told him that she lived with her parents and was in school. Their conversation moved to Snapchat, where he requested images and videos from her. He directed the child on how to take the images and how to pose.

According to the complaint, there were about 50 images and photos sent to Sheldon at his request.

Further investigation by the CCSO and Homeland Security Investigations identified Sheldon’s home as the source of the IP address used by the Snapchat account and the Gmail account associated with the Snapchat account.

Sept. 4, HSI agents and deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Sheldon’s home. According to investigators, he admitted there was child sexual abuse material on the computer and admitted to asking girls he met on apps, who he knew were underaged to send him nude images. w.
