Families are worried crime from a local motel is spilling into their neighborhoods, putting their children at risk.
On Monday, police said a man was discovered dead from an apparent gunshot wound at the InTown Suites on St.Johns Bluff Road North.
Heidi Eddinger-Cook told Action News Jax she’s lived just seconds away from the extended-stay motel for years.
“They started putting hotels around this neighborhood in when stuff just started happening," Eddinger-Cook said.
In June, investigators said they suspected foul play in the death of a man found at another InTown Suites location also on St.Johns Bluff.
The mother of three said the suites are bringing drugs and crime into the area.
“What if your kids are out playing on the road, or something goes down and someone comes by and is looking for that one person who is walking by your children, and the bullet misses that person and hits your kids?” said Eddinger-Cook.
Those living at the motel expressed similar concerns.
“These days, if you just look at them the wrong way and they take offense to that or something like that,” said Lucious Harris, one such person staying at the motel.
The property manager at InTown Suites directed Action News Jax to the company’s corporate offices.
