JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This week, the restaurant with the most health violations included dozens of roaches and when Action News arrived for a visit, employees locked the doors so we couldn’t get in.
Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits on North Edgewood Avenue knows exactly why Action News came to visit. They were temporarily shut down after health inspectors found dozens of live roaches near the kitchen entrance and under cooking equipment, undercooked chicken and mashed potatoes not tossed out after its expiration time.
Romney Smith questioned why they locked the doors so we couldn’t enter the restaurant.
“You guys just actively locked the door on us. Is a manager or an owner available to talk about how you guys were just shut down?” Smith asked.
A manager who would not give his name stated that employees are not allowed to talk on camera and do not have any statement to release about the inspection.
Health inspectors issued seven high priority violations at Wok N Roll in Orange Park. Findings include an employee not wearing a hair restraining while preparing food, a container of medicine improperly stored and inspectors noted a hand wash sink not accessible to employees at all times.
At the Krystal fast food restaurant on Atlantic Boulevard, inspectors noted 23 violations including produce with a mold-like growth, an employee not washing their hands, and a toxic substance or chemical improperly stored over clean cooking equipment.
