JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Several local restaurants were shut down last week including one eatery that was closed twice for roaches.
Action News searched the state inspection reports for Village Bread Café on Independent Drive, Chef Chan Asian Cuisine on Baymeadows Road and China Buffet on Argyle Forest.
The Village Bread Café at 2 Independent Drive in Jacksonville was shut down by inspectors twice last week. Inspectors found 12 live roaches in the grease trap behind the cook line, 20 to 30 dead roaches behind the cooler and cans of bug spray in the kitchen.
The next day the inspector came back and closed them down again for the same problems. The third time inspectors visited the restaurant it was allowed to reopen.
Chef Chan Asian Cuisine at 9802 Baymeadows Road was temporarily closed because food was being held at potentially hazardous temperatures and raw animal foods were not properly separated from one another in the walk-in cooler.
The China Buffet at 6001 Argyle Forest Boulevard was shut down with nine high-priority violations. Inspectors found food-contact surfaces not sanitized after cleaning, a stop sale was issued for potentially hazardous food due to temperature abuse, and live roaches were crawling under the prep table.
