RNC IN JAX: Host committee looking to partner with local venues, vendors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In 60 days, Jacksonville will host the 2020 Republican National Convention at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Right now, the host committee is asking for venues to apply for the massive event. Click here for details.

It is looking for spaces ranging in size and scope to host independent events.

Action News Jax spoke to Jacksonville restaurant owner Rebecca Winchester, of Toscana Little Italy, who said she was in Tampa for the 2012 RNC. She said that it was such an opportunity and this will likely be the same in Jacksonville – if not, more so, because businesses are recovering from the effects of COVID-19. Winchester said she has applied and is hoping to land a contract.

“I feel like it gives everybody an opportunity and just an extra step-up on making a little extra money to help us through this time,” Winchester said.

The RNC is still encouraging local businesses to apply as vendors if they have not already. Action News Jax reported last week when the application process for vendors began.

Hundreds of business owners have submitted applications and the host committee said it is making calls. Some of those businesses include everything from catering to florists, to sanitation and equipment. You can register at jacksonville2020.com/vendors.
