CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Mandatory evacuations will take effect Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Clay County for Zones A, B, low-lying areas, and vulnerable homes.

Governors Creek homeowner Russell Adam tells Action News Jax his home was damaged during Hurricane Irma.
“The last time when Irma came through, it was scary,” he said. “And we said if it gets any worse than that again, or anything like that again, we’re out of here.”
He also says he’s watching over his granddaughters right now, and that’s why he isn’t taking any chances.
“Was thinking about it, we’re actually watching our two granddaughters,” he said. “And we said, you know, we’ve got to get out of here for their safety, and for not scaring them.”

Clay County leaders tell Action News Jax five shelters will be in place, including a shelter opening at 12 p.m. for those with special needs at Lake Asbury Junior High. Four shelters for the general population will open tomorrow afternoon as well.
Some, like Gary McKenzie, say they’re going to continue monitoring the storm's movements, before making a final decision on whether to leave for safety.
“We could make the decision to go tomorrow,” said McKenzie.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging homeowners to leave if they live in a zone under mandatory evacuations.
