ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida — A South Carolina man has been arrested after resisting arrest and tried to remove a St. Augustine Police Officer’s gun several times.

Officers responded to the area of 118 Avenida Menendez Sunday night around 9:30 p.m, according to the St. Augustine Police Department. They responded to an intoxicated man, later identified as 24-year-old Andrew Allan Brown, fighting another man. The police department states that Brown attempted to take DJ equipment and then battered another individual.

When police arrived, Brown attempted to enter a car. Officers then attempted to take Brown into custody and he “immediately became uncooperative,” according to the police department. Brown ended up on the ground with the officers, and he then attempted several times to pull an officer’s gun from her holster.

Brown only stopped, according to the police department, after officers forcefully removed his hands from the handgun.

“Officers were on scene within 2 minutes of the call and quickly located and detained the suspect. Their quick response certainly changed the outcome of this incident,” Assistant Chief Anthony Cuthbert said.

Brown has been charged with battery, robbery, and resisting an officer with violence. His bond is set at $4,000.
