A drug that could kill within hours after taking it is hitting the streets of Florida. It looks nearly identical to a common prescription medicine.
The so-called 'Super Pill' is already blamed for 9 deaths in the state, and now local law enforcement officials say they are keeping an eye out for users in our area.
It's easy to get your hands on. The white pill is called the 'Super Pill'. It's a mixture of Xanax and Fetanyl.
"It's blended with other drugs and it's highly potent and highly dangerous," said Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson.
Jefferson said the danger not only comes from the substance inside this pill, but because people just don’t know or understand the power it brings. Fentanyl is 50 times more potent than pure heroin.
Although there are no reports here in Duval County, Jefferson said law enforcement definitely are on the lookout.
"If it comes to Duval County to populate our area like it's done in Pinellas County, I'm certain law enforcement officials will alert us. Once they start tracking down the dealers, then they're going to be arrested for not just dealing drugs but for murder as well," Jefferson said.
Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said there are no reported cases in that county as well, but officers are aware and watching out for the drug.
