• Veterans Day 2017: Free food, store discounts available for veterans


    On Veterans Day, restaurants and retailers are honoring those who served in the military with deals and freebies.

    Check out some of the deals below: 

    Free Food 

    BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse 
    Free entree under $12.95 on Nov. 10 or Nov. 11.

    California Pizza Kitchen 
    Complementary entree from a special menu on Veterans Day. Note: Please call the Town Center location (904) 421-0179 to confirm they are participating. 

    Texas Roadhouse
    Active duty, former or retired military get a free lunch from a special menu Saturday.

    Complementary entree from a menu with up to seven choices. Offer valid with an active or retired military ID.

    Red Robin
    The burger chain will give veterans a free Red’s Tavern Double Burger and Bottomless Steak Fries. The restuarant says "Just show us some proof of service and enjoy your meal with us."

    TGI Fridays
    The chain is offering "Big Ribs for Big Heroes." From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., veterans can get a free half-rack of ribs or any entree up to $12. 

    Red Lobster
    Free appetizer or dessert with a valid military ID on Nov. 11. 

    Chicken Salad Chick
    The chain says every veteran can get a free meal and a drink on Friday, Nov. 10. 

    Bob Evans
    The restaurant has a special menu that offers breakfast, lunch or dinner with proof of service. 

    Buffalo Wild Wings
    The wings chain is offering "Wings for Heroes." With a valid ID or a photo of you in a military uniform, you can get one small order of traditional or boneless wings and a side of fries. 

    Zoës Kitchen: Free entree
    This Veterans Day, Zoës Kitchen is thanking the brave men and women who have served our country by offering a free entree to all veterans and active members of the military. To get their free entrée, veterans and active military members must present their military ID at checkout.

    Dunkin' Donuts
    Free doughnut with a valid military ID.

    Krispy Kreme
    Free doughnut and small coffee will be given to any veteran or active military personnel (no ID required).

    Little Caesars Pizza
    The pizza chain will give away a $5 HOT-N-READY Lunch Combo. Offer valid only between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. 

    Cantina Laredo
    Free entree (limit $20) for all retired and active-duty veterans with a valid military ID. 

    Zaxbys: Free meal 
    On Saturday, active duty or retired veterans can choose one of five meals, free of charge.

    Golden Corral
    The buffet chain is holding a Military Appreciation Night on Monday, Nov. 13. Click here for more information.

    Tijuana Flats: Free entree
    To get their free entrée, veterans and active military members must present valid ID. 

    BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse
    Veterans and active duty members can get a free entrée under $12.95 on Friday and Saturday.

    Chuck E. Cheese
    Retired or active duty military with a valid ID can get a free individual one-topping pizza (using promo code #5500).

    Active duty and military veterans can get a free “Build Your Own Grand Slam” from 5 a.m. to noon on Friday.

    All veterans and active duty military personnel can choose from one of five menu items for free at Hooters on Saturday.

    All active duty and retired Veterans can get a free order of Red, White, & Blue Pancakes on Friday.

    Bonefish Grill: Free Bang Bang Shrimp

    On Saturday, Nov. 11, all active and retired service members with a valid military ID will receive a complimentary Bang Bang Shrimp at all Bonefish Grill locations. 

    Mission BBQ: Free sandwich
    The Jacksonville eatery is offering veterans free sandwiches on Nov. 11. 

    IKEA: Free entree

    Veterans Day Special (Please show some form of military ID, which includes a Military ID Card (active/reserve/retired); Current leave and Earnings Statement (LES); Drivers License with Veterans Designation; Photograph in uniform, be wearing uniform (if your service permits); Veterans Organization Card (e.g., American Legion and VFW); DD214; discharge paperwork, or other form of identification.

    Soup, garden salad, beverage or dessert not included. Dine in only. Applicable taxes paid by purchaser. Value up to $9.99. Offer may vary in IKEA Carson. Not valid any other discount or offer. No cash value.

    Free things to do 

    Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine
    Admission to the fort will be free in honor of Veterans Day. The Castillo is open from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

    Florida State Parks 
    Free park entry for everyone at Florida state parks on Nov. 11.

    Old Town Trolley Tours in St. Augustine
    Free admission to the following: Old Town Trolley Tours, Old Jail, Oldest Store Museum Experience and St. Augustine History Museum.

    Big discounts 

    Publix is honoring the men and women of the armed forces, along with their families, by offering a 10 percent discount on Veterans Day.

    To qualify for the discount, active and retired military personnel and family members will need to show their military identification. 

    The 10 percent discount only applies to purchases made on Veterans Day, and excludes all alcohol, gift cards, tobacco, lottery items, money services, postage stamps, prescriptions, Publix Curbside service, and Publix Delivery Powered by Instacar. 

    Target is offering military members and their families a 10 percent discount now through Veterans Day. The Veterans Day military discount is from Nov. 7 to 11.  

    All active duty military, veterans and their spouses and children are eligible to receive the discount on purchases in store and on Target.com.

    Southeastern Grocers, parent company of BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie stores, is also offering active military and veterans a 10 percent discount on qualifying grocery purchases on Veterans Day.
