St. Augustine Papa John's standoff ends with woman shot with non-lethal round

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A St. Johns County deputy shot a knife-wielding woman with a non-lethal beanbag round after a standoff inside a Papa John’s Pizza.

St. Augustine Police spokesman Officer Mark Samson said Tracy Huff walked into the Papa John’s Pizza on Ponce de Leon Boulevard just after 8 p.m., threatening to hurt herself.

Samson said Huff ordered everyone in the building out and barricaded herself inside, armed with a knife and also claiming she had a gun.

St. Augustine police tried negotiating with Huff on the phone.

Eventually she came out armed with a knife.

Samson said police ordered her to drop it, but she didn’t.

That’s when a St. Johns County Deputy fired a non-lethal beanbag round on Huff and she collapsed.

SWAT and police swarmed her, guns drawn, and took her into custody.

Huff had a warrant out for her arrest in St. Johns County for failure to appear on a traffic charge.

St. Augustine police have now charged her with armed robbery.

Action News Jax is working to find out whether she has any connection to the Papa John’s.
