Woman says Northside potholes caused hundreds in damage to her car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Northside woman is fed up with all the potholes in her community. She said they're not only an eyesore, they're costing her thousands in repairs to her car.

"It's been a huge problem with the potholes here in Jacksonville," said Mary Dennis, who told Action News Jax that a pothole ruined her radiator.

"I had a choice between get in a car accident or go across the pothole," Dennis said.

So down she went into a pothole.

"I've had to repair my car constantly. And it's just ridiculous," Dennis said.

The repair work cost her nearly $400.

"Now when I crank it up I still hear a whistling sound," Dennis said.

Dennis has filed a claim the city to recoup some of the cost.

"I want the streets repaired and I also want a refund. I want my money back," Dennis said.

We went out to the intersection of Alder Street and Brentwood Boulevard, finding the pothole that damaged Dennis' car has been filled. But that wasn't the only problem spot.

We drove farther down alder, finding a rough spot and pothole near Notter Avenue and more problems at Myrtle Avenue North and Moncrief Road, where you can barely drive by without being tossed around. And Dennis fears it could get worse.

"It could cause an accident. It really could," Dennis said.

Action News Jax reported those problem areas to the city. A representative said they'll have a supervisor out to take a look in the next one to two business days.
