Patrol officers found a large group of people in the area. As they dispersed the group, officers heard a gunshot and found the woman shot, Hancock said.

She was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The sheriff’s office said the victim is cooperating with the investigation.

“The suspect is currently unknown,” Hancock said.

Crime scene detectives are processing the scene for evidence, and shell casings were recovered, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said it believes the shooting was an isolated incident. “However, we always encourage the public to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office if they feel they need to,” Hancock said.
