Deputies: Dog killed with baseball bat, young Nassau man arrested

Deputies with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a young man from Callahan for allegedly beating a dog to death with a baseball bat.

On Wednesday, deputies say they were asked to assist Nassau County Animal Services in a call where a pit bull had been killed.

In the official report- which has been heavily redacted- investigators say Jacob Thornton, 21, took the dog outside to discipline it after he alleged it attacked a younger dog in the home. After returning from outside, Thornton reportedly screamed “you don’t have to worry anymore because the dog is dead.”

Investigators claim Thornton used a baseball with a screw protruding out to kill the pit bull.

Action News Jax has requested the full report from the NCSO and will update this article as more information becomes available.

Right now, Thornton is charged with Felony Cruelty to Animals.
