Man arrested after RV barricade in St. Augustine; previously accused of bomb threat in Jacksonville

St. Augustine, FL. — 54-year-old Joseph Vincent DiMaggio was arrested after he and a younger man were barricaded in an RV near the St. Augustine Wastewater Plant off Riberia Street Saturday.

An hours long standoff in St. Augustine has ended with the arrest of DiMaggio.

St. Augustine Police tell Action News Jax DiMaggio barricaded himself and a younger man in an RV Saturday.

Police say DiMaggio is charged with trespassing, domestic violence, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.

“Any time you have a standoff or a barricaded subject, it’s a high-level intensity, and there are a lot of emotions involved in it, so you want to get it resolved,” St. Augustine police officer Dee Brown said.

Police say the department received a suspicious vehicle call Saturday morning around 11:20 after an RV was spotted trying to enter the city’s water facility, which is restricted to the public.

Police say they tried pulling over the RV, and that’s when DiMaggio parked it and drew up the blinds, barricading himself and the younger man inside.

Hours of unsuccessful negotiating ensued, until police say the young man stepped out of the RV around 4:05 p.m.

At that point, police say, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office went in and arrested DiMaggio.

Action News Jax learned that DiMaggio is the same man whom Jacksonville police arrested after a bomb scare involving his RV one week ago.

“The community is safe. The scene is secure, and thanks to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Augustine Police Department, everything was resolved without harm,” Brown said.

Action News Jax asked police if the men are related; the department couldn’t share that information.

Police told Action News Jax the younger man was with St. Augustine Police, where he was being questioned Saturday evening.
