The Navy captain facing federal charges in the death investigation of a civilian on base is taking the stand in his own defense.
Captain John Nettleton is accused of keeping information from the Navy, falsifying records, and making false statements during the investigation surrounding the death of Christopher Tur, a civilian who worked on with Nettleton on Guantanamo Bay.
Tuesday, he took the stand and testified in his defense. The Government asked about his time rising through the ranks in the U.S. Navy.
He was also asked if he intended to obstruct justice in the Tur investigation in which he replied, "I did not."
Nettleton also admitted to a brief affair with Tur's wife in the months before the incident.
Tur was found drowned off the waters of GITMO, prosecutors say Nettleton was not forthcoming about events before Tur's death and during the investigation.
Testimony resumes Wednesday.
