BOCA RATON, Fla. — A pellet gun-wielding iguana hunter mistakenly shot and injured a South Florida pool company employee last month in a Boca Raton neighborhood, authorities said.
"I heard him scream at the top of his lungs – 'Ow!' – and he had blood coming out of his leg," the homeowner, E-Lyn Bryan, told the station.
Boca Raton police determined that the hunter, who was not publicly identified and won't face any charges, had been "hired to shoot and kill" the invasive lizards, WPTV reported.
Paramedics treated the pool company employee. No further information was immediately available.
In Florida, "homeowners do not need a permit to kill iguanas on their own property," according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's website.
"The FWC encourages homeowners to humanely kill green iguanas on their own property whenever possible," the website says.
