The discarded cats were found in a trash bin at The Porter Regency building by an employee and resident over a six-week period, WNBC reported.

Authorities said the cats suffered blunt force trauma and were wrapped in bedsheets and placed in cardboard boxes before being thrown down the chute, WNBC reported.

It is unknown if the cats were alive or dead when they were found, WPIX reported.

A resident of the building, Justin Visconti, 37, of Mineola, was arrested Tuesday and charged with four counts of animal cruelty, WNBC reported.

The cats were not Visconti's, WABC reported. It is unclear who the cats belong to.
