NC man wins $200K lottery prize on way to final chemotherapy session

PINK HILL, N.C. — A North Carolina man who bought lottery tickets to celebrate his last round of chemotherapy treatment received an even bigger reason for celebration.

Ronnie Foster has been receiving treatment for colon cancer, WTVD reported. Foster decided to stop at a convenience store to purchase lottery tickets on his way to his final chemotherapy appointment. He bought a $1 scratch-off ticket and won $5, which he traded in for a $5 Win it All scratch-off ticket, but at the last minute, he decided to buy an additional Win it All ticket, he told WTVD.

The first ticket was a loser, but the second one was worth $200,000, WTVD reported.

Foster claimed his prize Friday at North Carolina lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After taxes, Foster took home $141,501.

Foster told WTVD that he'll use part of his lottery winnings to help cover medical bills related to his cancer treatment.
