3.8 magnitude earthquake felt in Florida, Alabama

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — An earthquake shook the Sunshine State Thursday after a 3.8 magnitude tremor was felt in north Florida.

The earthquake was recorded at 11 a.m. at Mount Carmel in Santa Rosa County near the border of Florida and Alabama, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The agency initially rated it at 4.0, but later downgraded the magnitude.

The area is mostly forested and the quake did not cause extensive damage, WFTV reported.

Hundreds of residents reported ground and wall shaking, NorthEscambia.com reported. The quake was felt at a high school but there were no injuries or damage.
