Urban Meyer’s wife, daughter and Tim Tebow respond to fallout from viral videos

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Those close to Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer, including his wife Shelley, are continuing to respond to viral videos of the coach and a woman.

A video surfaced Saturday night showing a woman dancing close to Meyer’s lap, a clip that quickly went viral and made headlines across the country. Another video appears to show Meyer touching the woman’s behind.

The Meyers’ youngest daughter, Gigi, also showed her support in an Instagram story.

“We’re good. As a family, we’re good. The reality of it is as much as our lives might seems different than everybody else’s, we’re still human. We have human things that we deal with, and this is one of those things.

“But the good news is we know my dad and we know his character, and he’s literally the most incredible person I know in my entire life and I still hold true to that truth. That is my truth. Doesn’t have to be your truth, but that is my truth and I am sticking to it. We’ve all decided we’re going to move on. We’re moving on, and life is good.”

Jacksonville’s native son Tim Tebow, who played for Meyer at the University of Florida, had a brief stint as a tight end for the Jaguars during the preseason and has remained close to Meyer and his family, spoke to ESPN’s First Take about the incident.

“When I first saw and heard about what happened, my heart was hurting for Miss Shelley,” Tebow said on the program.

Tebow also said of Meyer that he wanted to “give him the chance to earn back that respect and trust, but at the same time, not condoning those actions.”

Tebow also said he gave Meyer advice on how to deal with the fallout: “Apologize, admit it, learn from it and never, never repeat it.”

On Wednesday, while speaking with the media, Meyer was asked about his wife, Shelley, and said he believed their relationship would be OK.

“I believe so, and obviously that’s very personal and I don’t want to get into our personal life. Thirty-seven years, we’ve been together and it’s been awesome and this speed bump’s not going to get in the way of that,” he said.

Meyer said Wednesday he met with the whole team, apologized to them for being a distraction and is intent on “owning the stupid mistake I made.”

Action News Jax received the following statement from Jaguars owner Shad Khan on Tuesday morning:

“I have addressed this matter with Urban. Specifics of our conversation will be held in confidence. What I will say is his conduct last weekend was inexcusable. I appreciate Urban’s remorse, which I believe is sincere. Now, he must regain our trust and respect. That will require a personal commitment from Urban to everyone who supports, represents or plays for our team. I am confident he will deliver.”
