Jacksonville Jaguars unveil new uniforms for 2013 season

None — JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled new uniforms on Tuesday.

The new look is unlike anything the NFL has seen before, thanks in part to new technology by Nike and a vision from Jaguars owner Shad Khan.

"The new logo was a start," said Khan on Tuesday afternoon. "Our uniforms needed a new look, too. The results are nothing short of spectacular."

The most noticeable difference in the Jags look is the helmet. The front of the helmet is black matte, but the color fades into gold for the remainder of the hard hat.

"The player becomes the Jaguar," said designer Todd Van Horne. "The player is coming out of the shadows on the hunt."

The primary color for the Jags is black, but the uniform has teal and gold accents on the jersey and down the pants leg, which are forward moving, lightweight and breathable.

"This Jaguar is always moving forward, take note of the speed lines," said Van Horne.

The black represents the true characteristics of the jaguar, a predator that hunts with precision.  There are claw marks on the shoulders and neckline.

"Our new all-black uniforms are sharp, fast and aggressive," said Jaguars linebacker

. "When you put on your uniform, your entire mentality changes.  You're representing your family, your team and your fans.  Putting on the uniform makes you want to give it everything you have on Sunday."

There are three different uniform combinations including a teal top with black pants and a white jersey with white pants.

The uniform features the new Jags military logo over the heart of the jersey.  The placement conveys the notion of standing united.  Nike calls it an honor to the fan base and those who serve.  The Jaguars insignia is also edgy.  "This is a Jaguar about to attack, a firm growl.  Look at the focus of the eyes.  It brings a new attitude and edge," said Van Horne.

The numbers are made with a modern and sleek-looking font to match the nameplate on the back of the jersey.

"These uniforms balance our tradition with the future," added Khan.  "The military-style badge on the front of the jersey speaks directly to the strong relationship we have with our hometown of Jacksonville.  These new uniforms leave no doubt about our brand essence of being proud, bold and committed.  I believe our new look will energize and inspire both our players and fans.  It's clearly a new era for the Jacksonville Jaguars."

The Jaguars new uniforms were two years in the making.  The Nike design team finished them late in the 2012 season.

Other features of the NFL Nike Elite 51 uniform are the integration of new, lightweight padding into "hit zones," and the lack of grab points, which should translate into more touchdown runs by the Jaguars.
