Jacksonville, Fl — A 4-year-old girl and a woman are hospitalized after being hit by gunfire. They were seated in a car that was parked in a driveway on Oaklawn Road, off Dunn Avenue, just before Midnight when a light-colored SUV drove by and opened fire.

Both victims have non-life threatening injuries, according to JSO.

A third person who was in the targeted vehicle was not hurt. Detectives from the JSO Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit were processing evidence and searching for surveillance video.

No additional suspect information was provided.

MacDonald spoke with Bernadette Fields, a family member of the victims.

“It’s out of control, when people are targeting 4-year-olds. I mean, what do you do? Like, who does that?” Fields said.

She said she hopes her family members will be able to heal.

“This is gonna take years of healing, like the little baby was, you know, grazed over her eye with a bullet, my sister was shot in the back twice. I hope she’ll be able to walk again,” Fields said.

Fields said the shooting is an indication of bigger issues city-wide.

“They are on social media. They’re watching what you’re doing. So this is like planned stuff that they are doing. But for them to target a little baby. We have some really deep issues in the city. And it’s no regard for human life,” she said.
