You may have noticed giant yellow lockers at certain gas stations around town.
It’s a new secure dropoff point for orders from Amazon.com and with holiday shopping in full swing, the lockers could give shoppers some peace of mind.
You’ve seen them time and time again: Thieves targeting packages left unsupervised at your door step.
“I think neighborhoods should take the proper steps in ensuring that people's property, their neighbor's property, isn't stolen,” said consumer Andrew Lester.
But now there’s a more secure way to get packages delivered from one of the most popular online retailers in the world, Amazon.com.
These yellow lockers have started popping up all over Jacksonville many of them are at Speedway gas stations.
The first cities to try it were New York and Seattle, but now the company is expanding the services to other cities and Jacksonville is getting in on the action.
They’re pretty easy to use. All you need is a pick-up code, or you can scan the barcode. Once you do that, the door to your locker will open but you can’t take a long time to pick up your orders.
You have three days to pick it up or it’ll be shipped back to Amazon.
We counted about 13 locations in or around Jacksonville and while some love the service, not everyone thinks it's that necessary. (SEE THE FULL LIST OF AMAZON LOCKER LOCATIONS AROUND NORTHEAST FLORIDA)
“If they want a more secure way of doing that, they could get a PO Box,” said consumer Andres Londono.
For others, the service offers some peace of mind especially during this busy holiday shopping season.
