The Glynn County Health Department released a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 5, saying the beach water advisory for the Fifth Street Crossover Beach has been lifted.

The advisory was issued on Oct. 4, after water quality tests indicated a high level of bacteria was present. The bacteria is known to increase the risk of gastrointestinal illness in swimmers.

On Wednesday, new samples that were taken showed the bacteria levels had dropped to safe levels.

The lifted advisory covers the beach from Cedar Street to Ninth Street on St. Simons Island.
