Police: Starke murder suspect arrested in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Starke Police Department responded to a shooting at 978 Old Lawtey Road on Aug. 21, 2019, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. The man, identified as Franklin Williams, was transported to Shands Starke Regional Medical Center, where he died, police say.

After collecting evidence, conducting interviews and cavassing neighborhoods, Antonio Antwain Butler, 26, was identified as the shooter, according to the Starke Police Department. Police say that based on the totality of the evidence, a warrant was obtained for Butler, charging him with second-degree murder.

The Starke Police Department began to actively attempt to arrest Butler, but the investigation led them outside of the city of Starke. The Starke Police Department then reached out to the United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force to request assistance in arresting Butler.

On Tuesday around 1 p.m., Butler was taken into custody by the United States Marshal’s Task Force Officers in a residential neighborhood on Jacksonville’s Westside. Butler was arrested on his outstanding warrant and transported to the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Facility. He is pending extradition back to Bradford County.
