Clay County emergency officials give update on COVID-19 response

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Florida Department of Health, Clay County has had 4 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which resulted in one death.

According to a news conference from Clay County officials, there are no plans to do drive-through testing like Jacksonville.

The Clay Department of Health Director explained that if a person believes they have COVID-19 symptoms to call their primary care doctor, get a recommendation and then they will be tested by an outside source.

“We do not have an infinite amount of resources, so we’re wanting to test those who are at the highest risk.” Heather Huffman said.

Clay County Superintendent David Broskie said if parents choose to keep their children at home, absences will be excused through March 20.

Huffman said Clay residents who have questions or concerns about COVID-19 should call a hotline the county set up at 877-252-9362. The hotline will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday, March 15. Officials may choose to keep the call center open later than March 15.
