‘It does not bring my Dylan back:’ Family of Jacksonville man found dumped on the side of the road speaks after guilty verdict in his murder

JACKSONVILLE,Fla. — Days after a local man was convicted in the murder of 26-year-old Dylan McCurdy, his family is talking about the verdict and two years of heartbreak.

“I’m happy but I’m sad because it does not bring my Dylan back,” Mother Faye McCurdy said.

John Wilson, the man who killed Dylan McCurdy, was found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder.

The trial was emotionally taxing for the family.

“He showed no emotion,” Father Bruce McCurdy said. “What I can say as far as being in there at that particular time, brought back everything from two years ago, seeing him and having to look at him everyday was very, very tough for us.”

McCurdy was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on the side of the road back on April 1, 2019.

The family says more than 200 pieces of evidence were shown to the jury, including the gun that was found in Sherman Creek.

Faye says while there’s some form of closure, knowing Dylan is gone pains them every single day.

“I think about Dylan when I do candles and look at my phone every night,” Faye said. “I tell him ‘son, you’re on my mind 7/24’ I don’t care what I’m doing.”

The family says Dylan could light up a room with his smile and give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. They say not a day goes by where they don’t think of him.

Wilson now faces a mandatory life sentence and will be officially sentenced next month.
