Coronavirus Pandemic: DCPS to launch Duval Homeroom

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 3/21/2020 AT 10:15 A.M.:

Lines have begun forming outside of Robert E. Lee High School where students and parents were directed to pick-up laptops allowing them to navigate through the home-based initiative, Duval Homeroom.

In a statement, DCPS explains that, "Regarding the length of the process, [DCPS is] communicating systematically and directly with eligible families.

As Dr. Greene said, high school was the first priority because of the needs of those students to maintain academic progress toward graduation. Today we will be communicating with the first wave of middle school students (not all, the first wave). We expect this process to continue at least through next week to get to all eligible students.

We continue to tell all families that completed the survey: please be patient in this process. We expect to distribute about 25,000 devices. When we are ready to match your eligible children with technology, we will tell you when and where to go to check out those devices. Again, this process will continue at least through next week."
