ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A 21-year-old St. Johns County man was jailed Thursday after damage was found to a golf course off County Road 210.
Gregory Lincoln was arrested after authorities found the wheel wells of his 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche covered in dirt and grass. He is accused of using the truck to drive on the Cimarrone Golf Course driving range, which the owner said caused more than $2,000 in damage.
The Cimarrone Golf Course manager discovered the damage on Thursday morning and was forced to close the range down for repairs.
Cimarrone, a gated community with a guard, has a record of the Avalanche entering the subdivision just before 9 p.m. on June 29. The vehicle was not seen leaving the community that evening.
Lincoln claimed that he and a 19-year-old man, who was not arrested, have been in Orange Park during the time of the incident.
Lincoln and the other man were discovered sleeping in the truck on June 30 by officials.
Authorities were able to find the truck because a trail of dirt and grass led them to the nearby residences where the truck was parked and the two were sleeping. Officials said the two smelled of alcohol. But, Lincoln said he only drank two or three beers.
Officials also found a 150-yard yardage marker in the back of the truck.
Lincoln faces felony charges of property damage with criminal mischief.
