DCPS property tax increase put on August ballot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville voters will get to decide on a property tax increase for schools in August. The City Council formally put the plan on the ballot Tuesday, after a 14-to-5 vote.

Most of the money will be spent to increase salaries for teachers and staff while another portion will go to expand arts and athletic programs.

Charter schools will receive12.5% of the tax increase, as Florida law requires.
