Emergency shelters to open for homeless in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Due to the approaching severe weather Thursday evening, multiple shelters have opened.

Sulzbacher will provide emergency shelter for the area’s homeless.

In addition to housing its 400+ people at both the Downtown Campus as well as Sulzbacher Village, the agency will open up temporary sleeping areas in dining rooms and library areas, providing sleeping palettes and blankets for people in need of shelter during the storm, according to the facility.

Breakfast will also be provided the following morning.

Women and families seeking shelter from the storm can go to Sulzbacher Village at 5455 Springfield Blvd. and men go to Sulzbacher’s Downtown Campus at 611 East Adams St.

City Rescue Mission’s New Life Inn is starting check-in at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Additional spaces will be made to accommodate all guests needing shelter.
