JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 3/19/2020:
According to Councilmen Newby, he is out of the hospital and feeling better.
STORY:
Mayor Lenny Curry has confirmed that a local councilmember has tested positive for COVID-19.
Councilmember At-Large Sam Newby is being treated at St. Vincent’s hospital.
In an email Newby sent to Scott Wilson, he wrote that he learned of his condition late Saturday night, but due to initial concerns, he has not reported to work since Tuesday, March 3.
He is currently in the hospital and recovering from the virus.
Councilman Randy White is also self-isolating at home, according to Curry. White visited Newby at the hospital in the past 48 hours but has told Curry that he has no current symptoms.

In statement from the city, the administration and staff have not been in direct physical contact with Councilman Newby throughout his incubation period. The City of Jacksonville has also increased its sanitation for all heavily trafficked buildings at least three times a day. This includes City Council offices, City Council chamber, and City Hall facilities.
