JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Based on community hospitals and research prediction models from the West Coast, local doctors expect a surge of COVID-19 patients to hit the Jacksonville area around early May.
To slow the spread, people are staying inside, working at home and only going out for essential activities.
This has left many wondering, how long will this period of social distancing last in Jacksonville?

Unfortunately, there is no clear answer at this time. For this reason, experts continue to encourage the community’s help in slowing the spread of the virus.
“For the City of Jacksonville, [when social distancing will end is] going to be hard to say,” David Caro, MD, a board certified emergency medicine physician at UF Health in Jacksonville, said. “I would anticipate it’s going to be after that wave goes by and predictions right now are looking at the peak of that wave to be in the first of May, as opposed to in April. We have a little bit of time left [to prepare].”
