JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A mistrial was declared Friday for 49-year-old Gerard Stewart, accused of killing his wife and placing her in the trunk of a car in June of 2018.
According to police, Stewart was at the center of a SWAT standoff on June 15, 2018.
Four hours went by during which Stewart threatened to harm himself and refused to come out of his house on Cavalry Boulevard before he was taken into custody. Then police say they found his wife in the trunk of a car.

Stewart pleaded not guilty to murder in the first degree and to tampering with evidence.
His trial, held the week of Feb. 8, ended in a hung jury resulting in a mistrial over the first-degree murder charge. He was found guilty of tampering with evidence.
Another pretrial will now be held on Feb. 16.
