Neighbors voice concerns over street vendors in Argyle Forest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — You see them setting up shop along the side of the road.

Street vendors sell everything from boiled peanuts, to flowers, to political merchandise.

Neighbors said roadside vendors along Argyle Forest Blvd. near Meadow Bend Dr. are disturbing their peace.

Karolyn Fox’s home backs up to Argyle Forest Blvd.

“I’m angry as soon as I walk in my door,” Fox said.

She said she constantly hears drivers honking or yelling profanities at one of the vendors who sells political merchandise.

“It’s really become a nuisance to the people that live along this stretch of road,” Fox said.

Neighbor Danita Dickson said it’s a safety concern. She said people park in the right hand turn lane into their subdivision to buy items from the vendors.

“It’s almost caused an accident for me personally on three different occasions,” Dickson said.

She said it’s also an eyesore and she’s worried it could devalue the property of homes.

“It really looks like a flea market,” Dickson said. “We just want peace and quiet like anybody.”

Action News Jax took neighbors’ concerns directly to Randall Piercy, one of the vendors who sells political merchandise.

Piercy said he’s just trying to run a business.

“I am absolutely not trying to cause a disturbance,” Piercy said. “I’m trying to help my son.”

Neighbors said they have reached out to the City of Jacksonville, the mayor’s office and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

“We don’t know where to turn at this point. We don’t know who to go to,” Dickson said

The COJ requires street vendors to have permits.

Action News Jax reached out the city and found Piercy’s permit expired in late October, but he renewed it Dec. 12.

“Everybody wants me to move apparently, but I have a right to be here,” Piercy said.

Neighbors said they would like to see the vendors move to a commercially zoned area and away from their homes.
