JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol said the wrong-way driver who hit and killed a father of three on the Arlington Expressway was still in the hospital with critical injuries Friday.
28-year-old Asea Hollingshed was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Passat that hit and killed Zarrell Crittenden head-on during the first day of the new year, according to FHP.
One of Hollingshead’s childhood friends told Action News Jax he couldn’t believe it happened, because he said she never caused any trouble growing up.
“She is a good-hearted person with her head on straight. She was working, got her own job, own place, she was living life. It’s a tragedy that it had to happen to her,” said Orlando.

Court records Action News Jax found show Asea Hollingshed was cited for traffic violations several times in the past five years.
Action News Jax Investigates found out Hollingshed was pulled over by law enforcement for six different traffic violations between 2012 and 2018.
One of those infractions was for driving with a suspended license.
Action News Jax also learned Hollingshed had a 2014 citation for improperly changing lanes and pulling out in front of a driver going in the same direction and hitting their car.
Some witnesses told Action News Jax Hollingshed was at the club, Jim’s Place, before the crash.
On Friday, we spotted a trooper at the club who told us he was there to try to talk to someone, but it was closed.
Charges have not been filed against Hollingshed and the report says troopers are still trying to determine if alcohol was involved.
“You can’t be drinkin’ and driving, it’s crazy. Your life is behind your hands with the wheels,” Orlando said.
Action News Jax Reporter Jamarlo Phillips went to Hollingshed’s address listed on a citation, but one answered the door and no one could confirm to us that she lived there.
FHP says this case is still under investigation.
