One man and one child dead after being swiped by car during emergency stop on I-95

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol reported a deadly crash on I-95 Sunday morning, just south of Pecan Park Dr.

STORY: One dead and multiple injured in major crash on Argyle Forest Blvd.

At approximately 4:50 a.m., a 24-year-old woman was traveling outside the northbound lane of I-95. At the same time, a pickup truck was parked on the side of the road and the 35-year-old driver was standing next to the vehicle in the emergency lane.

Family members said the pickup truck driver had pulled over because the 9-year-old passenger, his girlfriend’s son, said he was going to be sick.

The driver of the SUV traveled partially into the emergency lane, and the right side of the car swiped the side of the pickup truck while simultaneously colliding with the driver and the 9-year-old boy.

The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were transported to a local hospital were later pronounced deceased. The driver of the SUV sustained no injuries.

The crash is a pending investigation.

The northbound lanes of I-95 are still closed, and drivers are expected to experience delays.
