Jacksonville FL — With the Colonial pipeline still shut down due to a ransomware attack, we checked in with Gas Buddy to see what the potential impacts would be for you at the pump. Patrick De Haan, Head of Petroleum Analysis at Gas Buddy, says prices could rise slightly over the next few days, but nothing substantial is to be expected in the Jacksonville area since we mainly get our gas via a port. He says areas north of Florida won’t be as fortunate as places like Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, Eastern Tennessee, and Virginia could see prices spike temporally.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel. The pipeline is slated to restart sometime later this week so things will return”. De Haan says.
He says how much prices could increase by in those impacted areas depends on how many people flock to the pump to buy gas. He says if people go and buy gas in high quantities then the pain at the pump could last longer than a few weeks. De Haan is suggesting if you can delay travel to these areas then you should do so.
